Along with everything that 2020 unexpectedly brought us, one of those things for me was 14 extra pounds. I did a lot of sitting on the couch and watching way more Netflix than I’d like to admit. Can you blame me? #Quarantinesucks.

MYX Fitness Bike

Enters in the MYX Fitness indoor cycling bike. What is the MYX fitness bike you ask? Well, it is an in home indoor cycling bike that comes with a monitor. The monitor pairs with the app to offer you a wide variety of workouts that are not limited to cycling.

About The MYX Fitness bike

The MYX bike is an industrial grade indoor cycling bike that gives you the ability for a total body and mind workout. It has a touchscreen tablet that can rotate to accommodate your floor workouts.

It comes in white and navy, or in black.

Which package is right for me?

There are 2 packages that you can choose from: The MYX and the MYX Plus. The MYX comes with the bike and heart rate monitor solely (screen included). The MYX Plus comes with the bike as well as:

  • Small mat to put the bike on top of
  • 6- piece weight set with a kettlebell
  • Foam roller
  • Resistance bands
  • Oversized Mat for floor exercises
  • Polar OH1 heart rate monitor that pairs with your workouts

If you already have most of these additional items then the The MYX package may be best for you. If you are like me and only have one pair of weights and not much else then the MYX Plus is your best option. All of the equipment that comes with the plus is also used in the workouts in the app.

The app is what you will have on your screen but there is also another app for your phone.

The Subscription app

The MYX fitness app is not included in the package but is needed to get the full experience of the workouts. The cost of the app is $29 per month. This will give you access to hundreds of workouts which are added to monthly.

One of my favorite options is the ability to choose scenic rides. You can take a spin in The Rockies, San Fransisco, Patagonia, and more. There is also an option to ride while catching up on the news.

The app offers a wide variety of workouts so whether you are wanting a HIIT ride or a quick 10 minute ride to jumpstart your day, you have that option. You can also choose from yoga, kettlebell, weightlifting, cross training, and more.

They app offers a variety of coaches to help you reach your fitness goals. One of the methods that is incorporated is the use of positive psychology. This can be helpful when you are ready to give up during the middle of your ride.

Heart rate monitor for a more concise workout

The bike comes with a Polar OH1 heart rate monitor. This monitor is placed on a wristband and worn on either your forearm or your bicep. I wear mine on my bicep. It is rechargeable via usb. Once you hop on the bike and choose the workout of your choice you have the option to pair the bluetooth heart rate monitor.

There are 3 different heart rate zones in the app. They offer a heart rate zone ride to find out which heart rate zones you fall into.

While you are working out the coaches will tell you what heart rate zones to work towards. Zone 1 is low to moderate, Zone 2 is moderate to high intensity, and Zone 3 is high intensity. The heartbeats per minute are custom to you and your body. It also tell you how many calories you are burning while you workout.

My Thoughts & Experience on the bike system

I’m not sure about you but I love being outdoors, hiking, biking, and more but with 3 kids that get tired easily plus little to no help with childcare this can be a challenge.

I love that I am able to use my MYX Fitness bike in the comfort of my own home, especially since I had to cancel my gym membership and Covid is prevalent in the land. This bike has been a game changer for me and my fitness goals.

I definitely tried the youtube workout route but I was never consistent. With the MYX fitness bike, I have been more motivated to workout and cycle 3 days a week, this is the most consistent that I have been in 2020.

Something to consider

In my experience I have never tried another cycling app, but I have been to many SoulCycle, RIDE, and other Spin classes. The spin classes in this app are taught differently than those classes with a focus on a positive mindset and experience. It reminds me more of a personal training class than what you would experience in these other classes. The energy is high in these in person classes whereas the classes in the MYX app are more motivational and seem to be a slower style (this is in reference to the way it’s taught, not the speeds on the bike during the workout.)

I haven’t been able to try all of the classes obviously, but the ones that I have tried have a similar feel. I am used to high impact, high energy classes like SoulCycle and Les Mills Body pump, compared to these brands the classes offered here are a bit more slower paced teaching focusing on form and sustaining a positive mindset but still getting a great workout in. They offer different levels of classes as well for more seasoned spinners.

If you are an avid advance cycler this might not be the best option for you. They are adding new classes everyday and are continuously evolving so keep that in mind. I STILL GET A GREAT WORKOUT IN EACH TIME, for where I am in my fitness journey (somewhere in the middle, took a few steps backwards this year) It’s a great tool and I burn lots of calories and feel sore each time.

One more thing I would add, is that you are only allowed to change the songs in the app 5 times an hour but this is new, before you weren’t even given the option to change songs, this may change in the future as they are continuously evolving.

Concluding Thoughts

Overall, I absolutely love this bike! It is helping me reach my fitness goals and going from not working out much in 2020 to at least 3 times a week with the goal of working toward more. The ability to pair the heart rate monitor with the app to get a concise and detailed workout has been so helpful in this process. It truly has been the best step forward in my fitness goals.

This bike system is a great at home option for the person who had to cancel their gym membership and wants to be able to spin at home. This is especially great for the person who many struggle to find the motivation since the coaches are very encouraging. The MYX PLUS offers everything that you need for a complete at home workout and I recommend it to anyone who wants to be able to workout at home.
