Spring picnic vibes: What you need for yours

One of my most favorite activities to do during the spring season is take the kids to a park or beach for a spring picnic. When the weather is still 80 degrees and Texas hasn’t quiet reached the scorching, unbearable summer heat. I am sharing a few tips on what to bring for your next spring picnic.

Where to have your picnic

The great thing about a picnic in the spring is that the weather is usually so nice! That means you can have your picnic anywhere! We have had picnics in the park, or at the beach. If you live near mountains or a lake you could find a field and have a picnic there.

We were able to have a picnic at the beach. It was so fun and relaxing to hear the sounds of the ocean in the background as we ate our delicious homemade fare.

What to pack for your picnic

What to pack for your picnic can be as simple as a picnic blanket, a picnic basket, and food or as elaborate as bringing a table, balloons, and props.

For this picnic set up, since it was at the beach, we brought several blankets, a wooden pallet that we’ve had, a picnic basket, extra plates (since my picnic basket is for 4 people not 5), drinks, and a charcuterie board that I made at home. The pallet helped to lift the food off the floor and create a space between the sand and the food. This is by no means necessary.

We planned this picnic with the intention of being filmed by Alina Sukhova. She is a family videographer who specialized in capturing family videos for keepsakes. You can find her work on Instagram and Youtube. She filmed us and was so good at helping us feel natural while she worked her magic. You can see the final edit of her work below.

What food to bring to a picnic

When you are preparing for a picnic, there are so many food options to choose from it can seem a little daunting. One thing you always want to be mindful of is bringing foods that don’t require refrigeration. If you bring food that requires refrigeration then make sure you eat those items within 2 hours after it is taken out of the fridge. There are also really cute picnic baskets that come with insulation like this one, that can help keep items cool or warm.

We love to bring a variety of food options for our family. This beach picnic spread was a mixture of charcuterie and pre made mini croissant sandwiches.

Another great option for picnic food is ordering take out or order a charcuterie spread and take it to the beach, park, etc. for an easy picnic date. If you are local, Spread Charcuterie is based in Cypress, TX and she offers a cute date night spread that feeds 2 people. We ordered on for our fall picnic date on our anniversary.
