Easy date night ideas for staying in

Once upon a time before we had kids, we would go out on dates often. Fast forward to almost 10 years later (wait, what? When did I get so old?) We have 3 kids and not a lot of babysitting options. Although we have the occasional date night out, I wanted to share an idea for date nights at home. Whether you have kids or not, these are fun and will help you keep connected outside of all the mundane daily noise. Let’s dive right in.

At home date night ideas for married couples

At home date night idea: Fondue night

Firstly, let me tell how much fun this is. There is a restaurant in Houston called the Melting Pot. If you’ve never been or heard of it, let me fill you in. The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant where you can order a 4 course meal starting with a salad, then an appetizer of cheese fondue (YUM!!), Main course: which are types of uncooked meat that you cook in the pot fondue style, and a dessert fondue of chocolate of your choice. If you are in Houston I highly recommend this for date night. For at home date night purposes, I wanted to recreate this minus the 4 course meal and only the dessert.

A few years back I was gifted a fondue set and I decided clean off the dust and use it again. I also own a mini fondue set that is lit by a tea light candle. This mini fondue set is similar to the one I own. If you would like a larger fondue set I recommend trying this one out.

What foods can you include for dessert fondue

There are so many foods that can be dipped in a chocolate fondue. Here’s a list of some favorites:

  • Strawberries
  • Bananas
  • Apples
  • Dried fruit
  • Pound or Angel cake
  • Pretzels
  • Fruit
  • Marshmellows
  • Brownies

Get to know each other by playing games

In our house, we are gamers. Not only do we enjoy video games from time to time but we also really love card and board games. I recently purchased this conversation start game for my family. It has helped us get to know each other better. Playing games like scrabble or even candy land is one of our favorites. These are so fun to play together and really can bring out our competitive nature. Remember though, no sore losers!
