We had such a great time at Lively Beach I have to give you the scoop all about it! This was our first time visiting Corpus Christi. It reminded me of Galveston Island which is close to Houston.

Read this post on what to do in Galveston Island.

In this post I will answer a few important questions as well as share our experience at Lively Beach. We had such a great time and I would highly recommend considering a stay at Lively beach.

Where is Lively Beach Located?

You may be wondering where Lively beach is located. Corpus Christi is Southwest of Houston. The drive is about 3 hours away. Once you arrive to Corpus Christi you continue on towards Padre Island. In order to get to Padre Island you have to take the John F. Kennedy Causeway.

Lively Beach is located on Mustang Island which is right next to Padre Island. As so as you enter Mustang Island on the first road to the right called Zahn is where you would find Lively Beach. You can find the exact address below.

Address: 138 Zahn Rd. Corpus Christi, TX 78418

What are the rooms like?

While at the resort we stayed in a 1 bedroom 2 bathroom with a deck condominium. This was plenty big for our 5 person family. My kids are 7 and under. It came with a king sized bed and in the living room there is a couch that converts into a bed. This is where my boys slept and they loved it!

Inside you will find a fully kitchen stocked with the items need to cook a meal. I felt like they had everything! There was even a cheese grater. Along with pots, pans, skillets, cooking utensils, and more. It also as a full sized refrigerator, cook top, mini oven, and dishwasher. There are also dishes and silverware as well. We love being able to have a full kitchen when we travel. It makes it so much easier to stay on the property and not worry about venturing out for a meal. If you love a full kitchen when you travel as well check out this review for your next Texas travel road trip.

It also has a Nespresso maker as well and a few coffee pods and fixings. There is WIFI and a smart TV as well. You can sign into your streaming accounts to binge your favorite shows. The boys loved watching their favorite youtuber/gamer Prestonplayz while we relaxed on the patio.

They also have other rooms available as well, one of them is a 2 bed room and there are smaller ones as well. You can find the latest information on the resort here.

*Pro Tip: If you plan to cook in your room, be sure to stop at the grocery store before hopping on to the causeway. Once you are on the island there isn’t a grocery store around. The nearest grocery store is HEB.

**Also be sure to bring your own water bottles for your stay if you prefer filtered water. There is no filtered water at the resort.

Is Lively Beach family friendly?

The Fashionable Maven blog by Jenni Metzler: Texas Travel guide- Corpus Christi, TX. Where to stay Lively Beach.

We decided to take our family with us during our stay at the resort. While at Lively beach we were pleasantly surprised to see many families there. There were also couples and PETS are ALLOWED in some of the rooms too. We saw many people with their furry friends enjoying the resort as well. The kids had such a fun time playing at the beach or swimming at the pool.

What kind of activities are available at Lively Beach?

While many people go to the resort for the beach there are other actives to do while there. They also offer a grilling area, roof top lounge area which also has a grill, a 24 hour outdoor pool, corn hole games (a bean bag toss game), plus the amazing access to the beach.

While I was there, I did notice that they are expanding. I am uncertain what more they are adding but I think it was a game room area as well as more rooms.

They also offer golf cart rentals through a 3rd party place. Everything at the resort is within walking distance so this isn’t necessary but it would be fun to rent one just because.

At Lively Beach there is also a fire pit at the far side of the pool that is lit with tiki torches. I would recommend bringing your own smore’s kits and bug spray. Bug spray is a must in Texas.

The beach is within walking distance but you can also drive to it once your exit the resort to the left is where you will find the beach. You would consider driving if you are packing a lot of stuff with you for the beach. We didn’t drive but we do have this fold-able wagon which has been so helpful! We use it all of the time to carry the kids, drinks, and other items we need.

Where can I go to eat?

We decided to cook our own meals at the resort, we wanted to relax and not have go to a lot of places. That being said we didn’t go to any restaurants BUT I heard that Snoopy’s pier is a good place that specializes in surf and turf. Also, I found out that it is a Corpus Christi seafood landmark restaurant since 1980.

There was also a hamburger place called Padre island burger company that was really busy consistently. Every time you see a busy burger joint, you know they have good burgers. This is only about a 1-2 minute drive from the resort.

If you plan on staying at the resort most of the time like we did, I’d love to share with you a few food ideas.

Here’s a list of foods we like to take with us on trips:

  • Individual instant oatmeal packets
  • Granola bars
  • Donuts
  • A loaf of bread for sandwiches
  • Peanut butter and Jelly (the smaller sizes)
  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Deli meat
  • Chips
  • Fruit
  • Dried Fruit

There is an HEB near buy so we also picked up other items like frozen pizza, along with other easy to cook meals.

What to do in Corpus Christi

The Fashionable Maven blog by Jenni Metzler: Texas Travel guide- Corpus Christi, TX. Where to stay Lively beach.

While we mostly stayed at the resort there are a few noteworthy places to visit while in Corpus Christi. While many people travel to Corpus Christi for the beaches and fishing there are other fun activities to see while on your vacation. Here are a few of my favorites.

Spend the evening at Treasure Island Mini Golf

If you are traveling with family I would recommend stopping by Treasure Island mini golf. This place is so cute, I am sad we weren’t able to make a stop. We were all really tired from our beach day we decided to relax. It’s a beach/island themed mini golf course.

Visit the Texas State Aquarium

The Fashionable Maven blog by Jenni Metzler: Texas Travel guide- Corpus Christi, TX

On our last day in Corpus Christi we decided to stop at the Texas state Aquarium. We had so much fun here! The boys loved seeing all of the animals too. This is not located on Mustang island but in Corpus Christi. The Texas state aquarium is just a 30 minute drive from the resort. For up to date ticket prices and information please refer to this link.

Address: 2710 N. Shoreline Blvd. Corpus Christi, TX 78402

One of our favorite things was the touch pools. They have small designated pools with live animal in that you can touch or feed. We were able to touch hermit crabs, stingrays, sharks, and more.

They also have animal encounter hours as well as presentations about certain animal like you would see at the zoo. We made sure to attend the one where you could feed the stingrays and watch the dolphins perform some tricks. They are also very educational and informative on how you can protect these exotic animals.

They are an animal rehabilitation center and focus on healing animals and sending them back into the wild.

We also loved the jungle exhibit and the birds that they had there as well.

Inside you will find a gift shop as well as a 4D theatre, a restaurant, and a splash pad. Due to Covid these attractions were closed. They are offering a $5 off discount on tickets to compensate for this.

Walk over to USS Lexington museum on the Bay

The Fashionable Maven blog Texas Travel guide- Corpus Christi, TX

This massive ship is located in walking distance of the Texas State Aquarium. There is also a beach situated right by it. Unfortunately, we did not get to visit this museum, but its added to our bucket list of things to do once we go back.

If you or someone you are traveling with is into ships and airplanes this place may interest them. It is a massive ship with replica aircraft on top of it. There is an admission so be sure to check the website for the latest information.

Thoughts to keep in mind

We had a great time at Lively beach and in Corpus Christi, that being said I would like to mention a few things.

At the time of this post October 2020, they are still expanding the resort. There was construction going on during the weekdays. You could hear this happening when outside on the resort, but not at the beach.

There is no room service. They do not come make your bed each day. If your trash cans get full there are dumpster on the property.

Bring your own water bottle if you prefer filter water. The refrigerator doesn’t have a ice maker either. If you love ice I would pick some up at the nearest gas station (there is one just outside of the resort down the road).

Concluding thoughts

If you are looking for a fun place to relax and be able to kick up your feet then Lively beach is the place for you. It is very family oriented but also great for couples and your furry pals. The beach is within walking distance with direct access. There is also a pool and a wide variety of activities that you can do as you relax and enjoy the Texas coast air. We had an amazing time at Lively Beach resort and we cannot wait to come back again!

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I appreciate your time and all of your unending support. It truely means a lot to me!

My family had a great time in Texas. We had a wonderful time there and enjoyed the culture of the region. The nightlife was fantastic, and the city’s elegance is indescribable. We are in love with the place and explore so many places like San Antonio’s river walk, The Alamo, Space Center Houston, Big Bend National Park, etc. I would like to revisit there.
