Mother’s Day
This was my 5th Mother’s day. I cannot believe how fast time goes by! My biggest little man just turned 5 this past month. My first Mother’s day was also my husband’s birthday and my son’s baby dedication day. It was a busy day that year for sure. This year was slightly different. My husbands birthday was on Saturday.
We celebrated him the day before and then celebrated me the next day. We had a great time! Our day was filled with morning church, a picnic at the park and then we went to visit my mom. It was such a good day!
Then came Monday. Bam. Just like that. It goes back to our daily routines and schedules. Work, school, daycare, you name it. So what’s a girl to do? How does she take care of herself? Well, these are some of the self care techniques that I have adopted since becoming a mom.
Invest in at home Weekly Facials
No, I don’t go to a spa to get a facial at least not yet, but you totally could. I like to give myself mini facials. First, I use a good cleanser like this one, then I use a facial scrub that I got from my Ipsy glam bag. I will link some of my favorites below.
After, I do the first two steps then I usually use a mask. This mask has been my absolute favorite! It feels so soft and almost like whipped cream. It is very airy and I really do recommend it. My face feels so soft after I use it and I have dry skin.
Lastly, I either use a moisturizer and then jojoba oil or I go straight to jojoba oil. It really just depends on how much effort I feel like putting into it. This is the jojoba oil I use. I use it every night after my moisturizer.
Giving my self a mini facial make me feel so refreshed and give me a little kick in my step. It also feels great taking time for me and on my face which is the first thing people see.
Manicure or Pedicure to bring a pick me up to your nails
I love a good mani and pedi, though I don’t always get one. Since my kids are young, I either have to go when my husband is home or ask my family to watch them for me. There are times when I take the younger two while the oldest is at school, but it is only to get a manicure.
I usually go to the nail salon but there are times in between that I do my own nails. Awhile back my husband bought me a manicure/pedicure set. This was bk (before kids) when I used to only go to nail salon for these services, and I thought I am never going to use that. HA! A few kids later, what do you know, I sure have used it plenty of times.
Having the kit is really worth it. It came with a lot of tools that I didn’t have and a few lotions as well. Here is a similar one to mine and Here is a great pedi lotion kit. This is a great self care practice to adopt.
Get a monthly Massage or wing it at home
This is my absolute favorite! I love getting a massage. I don’t nearly get one as often as I would like. Getting a membership to a massage place is a great investment if you have extra money in the budget. I also purchased one of these as well. I recently bought this back massager and I love it so much!
Take time for Yoga and stretching
Yoga is a great way to clear your mind through meditation and stretching. I love doing yoga weekly and I mostly go to the gym for a yoga class, which is great since they have childcare. I have also gone to yoga in the park and at the mall as well.
Yoga is also great because you honestly do not need any weights so you can practice yoga anywhere. There is an app call Fitstar yoga which I have also used in the past. You can also find a lot of great youtube videos and stream them on your tv.
I always feel so much more relaxed and limber after a yoga session. You can get a really good and inexpensive yoga mat at Marshalls.
These are just a few of the self care practices that I like to incorporate weekly and/or monthly. How do you practice self care? Is there anything that you do that I forgot to mention? If so leave a comment below and let me know. Well, I am off to go buy a bike. Apparently, it is national bike month.
XO,
Jenni
