Round Top, TX

Have you ever been to Round Top? If no these Round Top Antiquing tips are for you.

A gal pals and I had the chance to go on a day trip to Round Top, Texas for the semi-annual antique shows. I took so many pictures and it was so hard to choose the ones I wanted to post! The whole place was too cute for me to handle. Round Top, TX is such an itty bitty town. The sign said it had a population of 9. It was about a 2 hour drive from where I live in Houston.

My friend and I planned to leave around 7 am to get there at 9 am, but we had a few detours and got there around 10 am. This was both of our first trip there. My friend and I had been talking about going to Waco to Magnolia Market, but we decided to get our fix by going to Round Top instead.

We found an event on Facebook that had the dates of the antique week. This post is dedicated to my experience and few of my Round Top antiquing tips that I learned while there.

We didn’t know much about it since we had never been but we learned a few things there. One being we bought tickets to the Big Barn Event center because we thought that was what you needed to get into the whole experience. Well, you don’t need tickets for the outdoor tents they are all free of charge. We actually found all of our stuff in the outdoor areas.

Price

The ticketed event was only $10 for general admission, although we saw a lot of cute things there most of it was way overpriced. This place had a lot of jewelry though that I didn’t see else where in the outdoor areas. We spent a good hour and a half in the big barn area. This event center is in Carmine, TX. Then headed to the outdoor area.

We we were driving up to the outdoor area we had seen about 3 different areas that had outdoor tents and shops and we decided to go to those afterwards. When we left the Big Barn Event center we went back to those places. We immediately fell in love with the shops. Round Top Texas antiquing is a Texas Bucket List must!

We found so much cute stuff and at way more affordable prices. Plus, we also bought some cookies from the Love Java bus. It was a vintage Volkswagen bus that was turned into a pop up coffee shop. They had the best cookies! This area is where most of the pictures you see here are from.

Lunch

Once we found some goodies, we loaded up the SUV and headed to lunch. Lunch was actually in Round Top which was just 2 or 3 miles from where we were. We ate at The Garden Co and Cafe. It was SO SO cute! The whole place was adorable! They had a small garden shop next to the restaurant with other goodies inside such as handmade soaps, lotions, hand towels, and many other products.

This is my favorite Round Top antiquing tip.  I bought some cute succulents from here. At the cafe, people rave about the grilled cheese sandwich but they were all out when we got there. We both ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which had chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, and tomato it was so delicious! My friend also ordered the lavender lemonade, I had a sip, it was really good too.

Don’t forget to see

On the drive to Round Top we came to the realization that their was so much more than the initial 3 outdoor shops that we had first seen. There were so many more on both sides of the street. You could probably spend days there just wandering around from tent to tent and shop to shop.

We saw a British shop, garden shops, a warehouse like place call Pall Michael (we thought it said Paul Mitchell lol), a rug shop and so many more.

Outfit Details

I had been looking for an outfit to wear for a while and I couldn’t decide what I wanted to wear until about a week before, I found these overall shorts. My friend told me that the forecast called for rain so I wore my Hunter Boots but I also brought my red Converse just in case. I’ve been searching for a cute top.

I really wanted an off the shoulder top that had gingham and I found one and it was sooooo cute but it was $50 so I didn’t get it. I was focused on saving that money for antiques instead. In my opinion, I thought gingham would be cute for antiquing. My friend wore a gingham top for the both of us though. She also wore her hunter boots too. It didn’t rain after all thankfully but our boots were a hit. We got so many compliments on them, plus they helped us in the muddy outdoor areas.

Without further adieu:

7 Round Top antiquing tips:

  • Don’t pay for the ticketed event there is plenty of free outdoor shops and I wasn’t impressed with the ticketed event either.
  • If you can, spend a few days there, at least 2. There is so much to shop.
  • Eat at the Garden Co and Cafe, order the lavender lemonade.
  • Pack small reusable bags for carrying your small purchases around.
  • Go with a friend or a group, it makes it much more fun.
  • Don’t be afraid to bargain prices.
  • Wear Comfy shoes, you will thank me.
  • Have fun and take lots of pictures.

They have this event 2 times a year once in the spring and once in the fall.

I hope these Round Top antiquing tips help. If you have any more questions let me know?

What is your fave place to take a day trip to?

XO,

Jenni
