Tips for Work at Home Moms: The Fashionable Maven

I am sharing 5 tips for work at home moms. Ever wonder how work at home moms get stuff done?

With so many task to balance it can be difficult to get everything done for the day. I am a stay at home mom who works aka WAHM.

You may think she works? Why yes I do. Blogging is a lot of work and it is really rewarding as well, but like many others I struggle to find all the time for the things I need to do and the stuff I want to do. With kids, blogging, and house chores. My days can be long and laborious.

Here are few things I have learned over the years. I am by no means an expert but I try to implement these 5 tips for work at home moms daily.

1. Organize your day with a to-do list.

Writing to do list has helped me tremendously. When you write things down you bring them to life. All of the business gurus say the same. When you put your plans on pen and paper it helps clear your mind and allows you to focus on one task at a time.

There are days that I am overwhelmed by all of the responsibilities that I have for the day with my kids, house, and business. I take this opportunity to write every single thing I have to get do down. Then prioritize it. You can make separate list for each one.

2. Prioritize your activities

This is easier said than done at times. In my case for instance, I have a 5, 3 & 2 year old. Monday- Friday the oldest goes to school, this alone has helped.

After you have your to do list, prioritize it. Do you have a deadline coming up that you must meet? Do you have a scheduled time for meals and snack times that can’t be missed. Is your laundry basket looming with dirty laundry that needs to be cleaned asap?

When you prioritize your activities you set yourself up to get the most important things done.

Being a mom of young kids, I know that I have to be realistic about this as well, which brings me to the next point.

3. Know that somethings will get left undone.

And that is okay! This one can be a hard one for all of us planners out there. In a perfect reality our kids would do everything they need to do or we want them to do all of the time, but they don’t. Things come up and plans have to be halted.

Let’s be honest, they are little human beings with the same feelings and emotions that we adults have. They just have less impulse control than we do.

As much as I want to be super woman, I know that some things get left undone at least until another day when I don’t have a pressing deadline. We as boss babes and mamas, have to let go of some of this. It’s hard trust me, I know.

4. Plan the days of the week for chores.

  • Monday: Laundry and dusting
  • Tuesday: Clean bathroom
  • Wednesday: Sweep and mop all floors or Vacuum
  • Thursday: Laundry again because 5 people (for me)
  • Friday: You get the point.

This can help organize your days by only doing certain chores on each day of the week. That way you aren’t trying to get everything done in one day. This is great to do for monthly chores as well.

5. Plan for times and activities with your kids.

The whole reason I quit my job a few years ago was to be able to be with my kids as much as possible. I began to miss making an income and meeting new people, cue blogging.

My kids are old enough to do some activities on their own while I get stuff done.

Setting times throughout the day, where we can spend time with them, play with them, and just enjoy them helps us remember the why of what we are doing. It also gives them and you the much needed bonding time we all so desire.

Bonus- 6: Use nap time/quiet time to your advantage.

I heart nap time. It is the best time for me to get some to do list stuff done without the interruption of the littles. It may not always go as planned but for the most part, it is a great time to focus on that one thing that really needs your attention.

May it’s finishing up that proposal, or that next blog post. It could be the time you scheduled for laundry. Whatever it may be it is a great time for you to get the most important things done.

If you have older kids and maybe you homeschool them as well, (I totally applaud you) you could create a quiet time where the kids do quiet activities in their own rooms.
