I was given an amazing opportunity to cover Comicpalooza 2018. This was my first time that I had ever been to any comic convention. Y’all, it was so much fun! I am so excited to share with you all about my first experience at Comicpalooza. I know this isn’t like one of my usual fashion post but it’s fun and I wear clothes everywhere I go, just like you. Ha!
First off let me explain how the convention works. From my understanding, this is a branch off of the original event called Comic Con. It is very simple, you buy a ticket either online or on site. There are different tiers of tickets. They range from about $40-300. At the convention there are always celebrity guest. They are usually actors and actresses that have starred in comic related movies. You have the opportunity to meet these celebrities at an additional cost as well as get an autograph which is extra as well. The photo is printed out for you moments after you meet them and then you can have them autograph it if you would like.
This year was the 10 year anniversary for Comicpalooza. There were many special guest which included Tom Holland who plays the new Spiderman in the Avengers movie as well as stars in Spiderman Homecoming. John Cusack, Krysten Ritter who plays Jessica Jones on Netflix, the guy from Reading Rainbow and many others.

Speed passes and VIP passes have the best options for the event.
Celebrities
Each convention has a set of celebrities that are available to meet for at the convention. You can purchase additional tickets to meet these actors and actresses. This is really cool because how many times in actual life do we get to see celebrities. The cost are based off of the celebrities popularity, so Ben Affleck who’s played Batman would cost more than a supporting actor in the Batman movie.
Vendors
There are many vendors at Comicpalooza. It really reminded me of the Nutcracker Market but comic related. The vendors sell a variety of items.m There was mainly art but there was also kitchen towels, bow ties, shirts, and many other handcrafted items. I purchased some superhero art for my son’s rooms and I got one free as well for buying 3. Which one did you think I ended up choosing? A Darth Vader one for myself. What can I say? The force is strong with this one.
Panels
There is whole schedule of events for the con. There is something going on all day at every time. One of the more popular events are the celebrity panels. I was able to go 2. I went to Krysten Ritter’s panel and Tom Holland. During the panels, they interview the celebrity about a variety of things. Many questions revolve around there lives on set and questions about the shows or movies they play in. At the end of the interview they have audience Q & A. It was so much fun getting to see these actors and actresses. The interview with Tom Holland was the best. He was so interactive with the audience. He even invited some of the crowd to come and sit up on the stage with him.
Cosplay
The cosplay is so much fun. It adds a fun dynamic to the convention. The best way that I could describe my first experience is it is like a Halloween costume party but in summer. Who doesn’t love a costume party? Everyone is so friendly too. If you want to take a picture with them they usually say yes and are more than happy to. What character would you dress up as? I would probably be wonder woman.
Quick Tips
- Fridays and Sundays generally have less crowds. Great days to go if you have little ones.
- Saturdays have the best panels.
- Saturday is the busiest, tickets cost more for this day.
- For panels if you have a general admission ticket, the earlier you get in line the better.
- Wear comfy shoes, there is a lot of walking.
- Take some snacks, some food is sold on the premises but not much.
- Take a bag to hold the stuff you purchase, pictures of celebs, autographs, snacks, etc.
- Have a blast!
There are also a range of other activities to attend based on your liking. There was a seminar for comic book art and also one for gaming. I can see why the event is 3 days long, there is so much to do. I had a blast and I would definitely go again, especially for a great celebrity line up. Have you ever been to a comic con? Would you go? My kids loved it too. The Metzler boy will most likely be going in the future.

Jenni
