January Ipsy Glam Bag review

In December 2017 I decided to give Ipsy a try. I once had a Sephora Play subscription and I loved it but I heard so much about Ipsy that I had to give it a shot.

Trying Ipsy Glam Bag

January 2018 was my first time to get my Ipsy glam bag. I have a few friends that are also subscribed to Ipsy. I have seen all of their cute bags in the past and similar products to the Sephora play boxes. What made me decide to switch were the cute zipper pouches that Ipsy offers.

The Sephora play boxes also come with bags and they are also cute but they are drawstring bags. All of the ones that I had were made of the same type of fabric. What would happen over time is that the drawstring would come out of the bag and then I was unable to shut be bag anymore. I suppose I could have tried to restring it but who has time (or patience) for that.

Another reason that I switched is with the Sephora play boxes you get a fragrance sample every month. So one of the 5 sample is a fragrance. I love fragrances but not enough that I get a new sample every month, maybe every couple of months but for surely not every month. I would have liked that to be optional.

I was really excited when I received my first Ipsy Glam bag. It arrived inside of a bright fuchsia pink bubble wrap bag. I loved it! My January bag came with the following: Luna by Luna Eyeshadow, Purlisse Mud mask, Seraphine Botanicals lip stain, The Balm cosmetics Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter,  and Ciate London Fierce Flicks Eyeliner. I will talk about each one individually below.

The bag:

So the January Bag was covered with blue mesh and had a neon yellow stripe as well as a silver reflective stripe. It kind of seems like it was work-out themed. I wasn’t too impressed with it but it’s sort of cute. It came with a motivational card that said  I will conquer_______. I thought it was a neat card so I kept it and put it on my pegboard above my desk for motivation.

The Balm Cosmetics- Mary Lou-manizer highligher:

This one is really cute. I like the shade as well. I love highlighters so adding to my collection was a really treat. I though it was a little small but I can get more than enough uses out of it.

Seraphine Botanicals Lip stain in Raisin + Cream

This lip stain sadly arrived broken and smudged. *tears* I like the color so much though. It is so smooth. It feels so soft when applying it and it smells so good too. It lasted for about an hour on me. I drank some water and kissed my son.

Even after the hour though you could still see a faint color from the stain. I also have not heard of this brand. I mostly buy prestige products so I took a look at the website. Like the mud mask this brand also uses more natural ingredients and is free of the following.

  • Artificial preservatives
  • Parabens
  • Harsh chemicals, dyes or non-food grade fragrances
  • Phthalates
  • Sulphates
  • Petroleum
  • Bismuth oxychloride
  • Nanoparticle

I really like this one because it is so smooth. I honestly think it has been one of the smoothest lip products I have ever tried on.

Purlisse Blue Lotus Seed Mud Mask:

I actually tried this one today. I really liked how it made my skin feel soft afterwards. I first washed my face with Ole Henriksen’s the clean truth cleanser. After I dried my face I applied the mask. I have to say though it kind of stung when I first put it on and then for a few minutes after.

I am not sure why that is. It wasn’t unbearable so I just left it on. As it dried it became really tight. I kept it on for about 15 minutes then washed it off with warm water.

My skin looked brighter and even felt a little tighter too. I looked at the website since I haven’t heard of this brand before.

I like that they use natural ingredients as well as sans parabens, mineral oils, No animal products, propyene-glycol, GMOs, or sulfate. I don’t always used products that are more natural but I do prefer them.

Overall, I liked how my skin felt afterwards. Once it was all washed off I applied a few drops of jojoba oil to my face and neck. My skin felt so smooth and dewy.

Ciate London- Fierce Flicks eyeliner:

This was my most favorite of the few. I was actually about to run out of my current eyeliner. I am looking for a good liquid one. I have been using a cheap drugstore one and before that I was using Urban Decay’s 24/7  glide on eye pencil in Zero. I wanted to make a switch to a liquid one for a more dramatic look. I still love the urban decay one though.

I like the Ciate eye pencil mostly because of the brush tip. I was using one that had a separate brush and you had to dip it in. The brush tip was really flimsy and honestly hard to use because of it.

Fierce flicks had a nice soft tip but it was also more sturdy. I felt like I messed up less often with this one. I would consider buying this again. I am curious to see how long it will last me. It looks to be a full sized pencil.

Luna by Luna Eyeshadow in Juliet:

This eyeshadow was really cute. I like the shade. It is nice and shimmery which I wear a lot of. I tried it on though and it didn’t last. This disappointed me. I use urban decay eyeshadow primer and it works great with many different brands of eyeshadows that I wear but for some reason this eyeshadow didn’t last long.

Because of this I wouldn’t consider buy it or any other from this line. I am not sure how it would work with other primers so it may be okay, but I never have any other trouble with the other brands I wear including drugstore brands. Nevertheless, the color is cute.

Final thoughts

Overall I am fairly satisfied with my January bag. I would like to have seen more brands that I recognized, like I mentioned I normally buy prestige brand makeup, so I am more interested and try those brands more than others but I do like the more natural brands that I was able to try and I am considering adding them to my lists.

I did feel like compared to the Sephora Play box, the Ipsy Glam Bag items were much smaller. I remember receiving fairly large samples with Sephora. I am not too worried about it right now though, since it is my first bag. I also check out the hashtags for the Ipsy glam bag and I saw that some people got a really cute brush. I definitely wouldn’t have been mad about getting that.

I am really excited about my February bag. It should be coming soon!  What about you? Do you get any subscription boxes/bags? Share them with me. I love getting them! I am always looking to try new ones. Do you have a Ipsy Glam bag subscription? A Sephora play subscription?

XO,

Jenni
